A note of local interest. Fields 591-598 are not part of the standard MARC 21 format. Use fields 591-598 in Local Bibliographic Data (LBD) for notes you judge to be inappropriate or unnecessary for the WorldCat record. Use for notes pertaining only to the copy of the item located in your institution (e.g., accessions information, local holdings, or receipt dates). Generally, use other note fields for notes applying to all copies of an item.

Fields 591-598 provide more flexibility than field 590 because of the use of all subfield codes. At least one subfield from subfields ǂa-ǂz is mandatory when using fields 591-598.
