Dates are included when the beginning date of the current frequency is not the same as the beginning date of publication, i.e., a former frequency is given in field 321. If issues of a serial only carry numerical rather than chronological designations, the numerical designation is given in subfield ǂb. Uncertain dates that may not be the earliest or latest dates applicable to a recorded frequency are enclosed in angle brackets. When an item has ceased publication, the current frequency date is closed but remains in field 310.

A MARC code that identifies the source list from which the mode of issuance is assigned. If the term appearing in the field is from a translated version of the original source document or list, the code must be followed by the appropriate 3-character MARC language code from the MARC Code List for Languages. The language code is separated from the subfield ǂ2 code by a slash. The term in subfield ǂa and the language code in subfield ǂ2 should be consistent with the language coded in field 040 subfield ǂb. For information about subfield ǂ2, see Control Subfields. |
