Definition |
Call numbers taken from the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), accessed through the electronic or printed version. Field 092 is not part of the standard MARC 21 Bibliographic format. If you are transcribing Library of Congress (LC) copy or Canadian Cataloging-in-Publication, use field 082 for Dewey numbers assigned by LC or Library and Archives Canada. Field 092 is not retained in the WorldCat record if field 082 contains a call number. Field 092 is retained in exported records and records delivered via other services. |
||||
Guidelines |
If you assign a Dewey Decimal Classification number according to the DDC schedules or to LC practice, prefer field 082 with 2nd indicator 4. If the classification portion of your number does not conform to the DDC schedules, use field 099. |
||||
Multiple call numbers | Certain classification choices are recognized to be local decisions. Multiple call numbers in the same classification scheme in a WorldCat record may be appropriate under certain circumstances. For more information, see 050-099 Introduction to Call Numbers. |
