Publisher Collection Analysis

OCLC is developing a new service called Publisher Collection Analysis for publishers that serve the library market. Publisher Collection Analysis will enable publishers to analyze their materials in WorldCat and receive library holdings information about their published titles. The service is scheduled to launch in July 2007 and will be accessible through the FirstSearch platform as an annual subscription. 

Reports

Initially, the service will enable you to request reports about your published titles held by libraries. The reports will provide the following kinds of information:

• Age and subject content
• Titles and title counts, by publication date
• Language, format (books/serials), or audience level (adult/juvenile) information
• Collection gap information ranging from a broad overview to title lists

Publisher Collection Analysis will provide you with a comprehensive, cost-effective way to routinely evaluate library holdings of your published materials and to gather business intelligence, not currently available to you, about libraries' collections, including information about titles that libraries are purchasing and not purchasing.

This quantitative information will help you make better-informed business decisions about:

• Top sellers
  You can identify libraries whose collections are missing known top-selling titles.
• Strengths and weaknesses of library collections
  You can more easily and comprehensively help libraries with limited budgets better determine the key titles to strengthen their collections.
• Acquisitions lists
  You can identify lists of titles not owned by libraries and create collection development lists for use as sales tools.  
• Opening-day collections
  You can identify titles held by similar libraries to help create opening-day collections for their new library customers. 
• Collection analysis
  You can analyze their collections based on age (publication date), subject, format, language and audience.
