Introducing basic inventory using OCLC's Digby® app!

The Digby mobile app has helped libraries' student workers, volunteers, and staff manage common library tasks like handling pull lists and reshelving more efficiently—saving time and reducing reliance on paper slips. Now, they can use Digby to help their library conduct a basic inventory.

Digby's inventory feature includes exception recognition for items on hold, etc., an inventory items report, and support for Bluetooth laser scanners. Digby makes it easy to move efficiently from shelf to shelf, scanning each item’s barcode using a Digby-enabled device, and taking inventory of your library's collection.

Streamline workflows

With WorldCat® data as its foundation, libraries using WMS experience improved workflows and a drastic reduction in the time it takes to perform routine tasks, including e-resource management and cataloging. They have also been able to reallocate full-time staff to undertake new initiatives, such as cataloging special collections, creating LibGuides for users and redesigning library websites.

Realize significant cost savings

Traditional ILS systems often require costs to maintain servers and software. These costs are eliminated with WMS, a cloud-based system. Additionally, there are no fees related to the purchase of separate serials management, course reserves, openURL resolver and A – Z list services, all of which are included with a WMS subscription.

Manage e-resources efficiently

WMS integrates all your electronic and print resource management workflows—including selection, acquisitions and maintenance—within the same Web-based WorldShare interface. This helps to streamline and automate the management of electronic collections and puts electronic materials in the hands of users more quickly.

WorldShare Management Services includes a range of reports based on local data. Acquisition, circulation, cataloging/collection, and e-resources reports provide important data so librarians, staff and library management can understand library activities and track key metrics over time. WorldShare Report Designer takes advantage of data in WorldShare Management Services and enables you to build custom reports, charts, and data visualizations to satisfy library, academic and agency reporting requirements. Collection Evaluation provides user-specified, peer comparisons based on OCLC cooperative data. WorldShare Report Designer and Collection Evaluation are add-on services.

"Having a legacy system that was built for the processes of 20 years ago meant that we kept the paper processes of 30 years ago, which were then automated 20 years ago. Moving to a new system [WMS] that was designed around e-resources workflows and sharing information inspired us to change all kinds of other things within our library."

A cooperative effort

OCLC worked with a library advisory council, pilot libraries and early adopters to develop WMS, a cloud-based cooperative library management system. WMS has been selected by more than 600 libraries worldwide since its launch in 2011. It provides libraries with the unique opportunity to share data, infrastructure, innovation, and success.

WorldShare Management Services is a cloud-based library services platform that saves you time and money by helping you easily manage library resources in all formats. With WorldCat as its foundation, WorldShare Management Services enables you to draw on the collaborative data and work of libraries worldwide for more efficient workflows.
