OCLC Minority Fellowship program expanded; Applications for 2010 Fellowships now being accepted

DUBLIN, Ohio, USA, 17 August 2009—OCLC is expanding and increasing support for its OCLC Minority Fellowship program designed to provide opportunities for aspiring library professionals from historically under-represented groups.

The program, which offers an opportunity for selected candidates to be part of the world's leading library cooperative, was started this year with one Fellow and has been expanded to include two Fellows in 2010. The 12-month paid program offers an opportunity to work with OCLC staff in a variety of service areas. Each Fellow will have a unique experience tailored to his or her interests and expertise within specific service areas of OCLC.

Applicants must have earned an accredited Master's degree in Library Science or Information Science by January 2010. Applicants with other graduate degrees must have an emphasis in a technology field or special emphasis in libraries or other cultural heritage institutions.

OCLC is now accepting applications for the 2010 Fellowships. The deadline for applications is September 8, 2009. For details, see the Program guidelines. Applications are available on the OCLC Career Center site.

Applicants must have a demonstrated awareness and sensitivity in issues of inclusion/diversity; strong organizational skills that include the ability to organize work plans and processes toward a targeted outcome; and exceptional communication skills. The selected individuals must represent historically under-represented groups (defined in a manner consistent with the 2007 EEO-1 reporting classifications and the U.S. Census Bureau) and be a United States citizen or Permanent Resident.

More information is available on the OCLC Web site.

Questions about the program should be directed to Jerome Offord, Jr., Manager, OCLC Corporate Inclusion at minlibfellow@oclc.org.
