Complutense University of Madrid extends partnership with OCLC
Renewal agreement strengthens over a decade of collaboration
LEIDEN, Netherlands, 5 March 2026—OCLC and the Complutense University of Madrid have extended their collaboration with a new five‑year agreement for WorldShare Management Services (WMS). The renewal extends a partnership of more than ten years and reinforces the university's commitment to OCLC's integrated cloud‑based library services platform.
The renewal also includes continued use of Tipasa, the interlibrary loan management system that automates workflows and reduces processing time while improving delivery speed.
Commitment to innovation
"Renewing our collaboration with OCLC for another five years is a commitment to continuously improving the services we provide to our university community," said Antonio Moreno Cañizares, Director of the Complutense Library. "We value the ongoing development of WMS and the planned enhancements that will help us optimize processes and deliver a more integrated, efficient experience."
The Complutense University of Madrid Library is the largest university library in Spain and one of the largest in Europe. It comprises 26 libraries distributed across its campuses, as well as the Historical Library, serving more than 80,000 students. Its collection includes more than three million books, 170,000 digitized works, and nearly 686,000 electronic monographs.
"Being part of an international cooperative network expands the reach of our collections and strengthens our capacity for learning and collaboration with other libraries," said Moreno Cañizares.
Value of partnership
"This partnership helps us provide students, faculty, and researchers with faster and more comprehensive access to resources—both print and electronic—and strengthens essential services such as interlibrary loan," Moreno Cañizares added.
"Complutense University of Madrid is a beacon for academic libraries in Spain, and we're proud that they're an integral part of the WMS community," said Eric van Lubeek, OCLC EMEA Managing Director. "This new agreement demonstrates sustainable trust and satisfaction between OCLC and Complutense University of Madrid. It's a great partnership that we believe will continue for many years to come."
