SHEFFIELD, UK, 15 June 2022–Three more libraries based in the UK have recently selected OCLC's WorldShare Management Services as their new library management system.

WorldShare Management Services (WMS) is a cloud-based library services platform that provides users with fast, reliable access to the library's collections and a worldwide network of knowledge. With WorldCat as its foundation, library staff can draw on OCLC's shared data network and technology for more efficient workflows.

UK libraries that have recently joined the WMS community include:

  • Bournemouth University, founded in 1992, is a public university ranked 62nd in the THE Young University Rankings, 2022and also, 42nd worldwide in the THE Impact Rankings 2022, which measure universities against the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

"We chose WMS for its student-friendly discovery system, enhancing the user search experience through seamless linking to our extensive array of e-resources and other collections as a single one-stop search. We are pleased that WMS offers so many features for our staff and students," said Chris Fowler, Head of Library Services at Bournemouth University.
  • Newman University (Birmingham, UK) initially set up as Newman College of Higher Education in 1968, gained full university status in 2013. The university has 2,700 students and their stated mission is to help those students develop new ways of understanding the world, making a positive impact, and creating a lifelong love of learning.

"In appointing a new LMS supplier we were looking for a reliable and responsive partner to work with us in delivering transformational change. In OCLC, we found a company whose ethos and values align well with our own, combined with a flexible and engaging product that delivers on our service aspirations and an active, and growing, higher education community in the UK," said Chris Porter, Director of Library and Learning Services at Newman University.
  • University of Southampton is a research university based in the south of the UK and is a founding member of the Russell Group of research universities, who commit to high research and teaching standards. They also ranked 16th in The Times | The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022.

"We're delighted to be making big changes to improve our library services to students and staff. The deployment of WMS, as our new LMS in summer 2022 is the latest example on how we will significantly enhance our user experience and bring significant tangible benefits. This big and complex technological change gives us the opportunity to review and optimise the way we work, and to simplify and streamline our user facing services. The introduction of a new library search will significantly improve discovery of the physical and digital resources in our collections," said Anna O'Neill, Director of Library Services at the University of Southampton.

"We are very pleased to welcome these three UK universities into the WMS community. WMS will allow them to further build on their missions of advancing learning and knowledge by improving the user discovery experience and increasing access to a world of resources," said Eric van Lubeek, Vice President, Managing Director, OCLC EMEA & APAC.

More than 750 libraries of all types use WorldShare Management Services worldwide.
