DUBLIN, Ohio, 16 July 2026—The University of Medellín, a private university in Medellín, Colombia, has selected OCLC's WorldShare Management Services as its new library services platform to take full advantage of efficiencies in cataloging, discovery, and resource sharing.

The University of Medellín was founded in 1950 by a group of intellectuals seeking to provide independent education free from the political and religious tensions of the era. The university is organized into five core disciplines: Law; Economics and Administrative Sciences; Engineering; Communication; and Design. It offers 23 undergraduate programs, 24 specializations, 20 master's degrees, and six doctoral programs.

Exciting, significant change at the University of Medellín Library

"We are currently in an exciting period of significant change in our Library, involving both our physical facilities and our technology infrastructure. This transition gives us the opportunity to modernize our library services platform—reducing costs, improving reporting, and strengthening our technical, administrative, and professional workflows—resulting in better service for our users," said Sandra Milena Duque Muñetón, Director, University of Medellín Library.

"Our decision to select WorldShare Management Services was driven by several factors, including improving user access to information by integrating print and digital resources, and providing access to WorldCat that enables us to work cooperatively with libraries around the world."

WorldShare Management Services (WMS), built with WorldCat as its foundation, allows library staff to better meet the teaching, learning, and research needs of their users. WMS makes it possible for libraries of all sizes to use their resources to make the greatest impact while easily extending their reach beyond their own electronic and print collections.

Expanding discovery, access to library collections

In 2025, OCLC introduced the Colombia Discovery Catalog, a group catalog that improves libraries' visibility within Colombia by providing a unified view of collections across libraries, and facilitates the sharing of these library resources among Colombian institutions. By selecting WMS, the University of Medellín will also have its entire library holdings added to the Colombia Discovery Catalog.

A record of 'excellent' support

"We have seven years of experience working with OLIB, during which we have consistently received excellent support from OCLC, as well as from Nova Informática, whose team has been readily available and responsive whenever we've needed technical assistance," said Sandra Milena Duque Muñetón, Director, University of Medellín Library.

OCLC is working closely with NOVA Informática, its distributor in Colombia, to promote, implement, and support WorldShare Management Services in libraries.
