BERLIN, Germany, 27 February 2023—The Akkon Hochschule für Humanwissenschaften, in Berlin, has selected OCLC’s WorldShare Management Services (WMS) as its new, cloud-based library services platform to improve workflows, support research, and share resources worldwide through WorldCat.

The publicly accredited Akkon Hochschule is Germany's first Hochschule (an institution of higher education similar to a college or university) of human sciences, established in 2009. Its core objectives are to make a sustainable contribution to the security of supply, social justice, and preservation of resources, as well as to contribute to the further development of the human sciences, and to inspire innovation.

"At the forefront of our decision to choose WMS was the fact that WMS will make our library workflows much more efficient. It will also enable us to make our local print resources, as well as rapidly growing e-resources, available worldwide through WorldCat," said Franziska Albrecht, Head of Library, at the Akkon Hochschule für Humanwissenschaften.

"Since research plays a special role at Akkon, it was also an advantage that WMS, with its modular and flexible design, supports the complex activities of our scientists in the best possible way. Therefore, I am sure that the new library system will not only allow us and our students to work more conveniently and quickly but will also promote our research work," Albrecht added.

WMS is a cloud-based modular library system that offers its users a modern and intuitive user interface. Not only does this allow for easier management of electronic, digital, and print media, but it also provides researchers and students at Akkon Hochschule with greater access to data and knowledge through WorldCat Discovery, an integrated user service.

"We are very pleased to welcome the Akkon Hochschule für Humanwissenschaften to the WMS community. We’re confident that WMS will help Akkon achieve its own teaching and research goals through its user-friendly discovery capabilities and expanded access to WorldCat," said Eric van Lubeek, Vice President, Managing Director, OCLC EMEA & APAC.
