SHEFFIELD, UK, 5 June 2025—The University of Glasgow has selected OCLC's WorldShare Management Services (WMS) as their new fully integrated library services platform, a move that they are confident will provide an improved experience for all users of the library.

The University of Glasgow is a global top 100 university and a member of the prestigious Russell Group. Founded in 1451, it is one of four "Ancient Universities of Scotland." The university library itself is one of the oldest and largest in Europe and holds many collections of international significance.

"Our decision to select and deploy WMS was motivated by a multitude of factors. A key factor was our desire to deliver next-generation digital library services to both our end users and our internal teams," said Dr. George Macgregor, Assistant Director, Digital Library at the University of Glasgow.

"After evaluating the various system alternatives, we concluded that WMS offered superior opportunities for an improved user experience, both in its resource discovery potential and its UI. Another key factor was our desire to harden our cybersecurity posture. We were encouraged by OCLC's security certifications and impressed by their attention to information security and look forward to working closely with them as we transition to WMS in the coming year," said Dr. Macgregor.

WMS is a complete cloud-based library services platform that supports an institution's strategic priorities providing actionable data and an experience designed with the user in mind. Library staff can save time and resources with efficient management of both physical and electronic resources in one integrated solution.

"We are delighted to welcome the University of Glasgow to the WMS community, which will help in their mission to collaborate on a global scale and further improve resource discovery," said Eric van Lubeek, Managing Director, OCLC EMEA & APAC. "We're very pleased to see the WMS community continue to grow in the UK."

OCLC is the highest-ranked supplier in the Advanced Procurement for Universities and Colleges (APUC) framework agreement for library management systems. APUC is a procurement center of expertise for a range of different products and services. The organization works with Scotland's 60 universities and colleges, including the University of Glasgow, encouraging sustainable innovation and procurement collaboration, which in turn provides a more economical approach to the tender process for institutions.
