Edith Cowan University is using OCLC's Choreo Insights to further access to resources
Choreo Insights has had a 'massive impact' on day-to-day work
DUBLIN, Ohio, 16 July 2025—Edith Cowan University is using OCLC's Choreo Insights library analytics solution to provide greater access to resources for faculty and students. The university, the first to use Choreo Insights in Australia, is committed to making as many resources available online as possible to improve the library experience for all users.
Choreo Insights empowers libraries to make collection assessment decisions for long-term planning with confidence. The comprehensive library analytics solution uses the power of WorldCat, the world's most comprehensive database of information about library collections, to align academic library collections with institutional focus areas, curriculum priorities, and future trends. Since the dataset is refreshed weekly, libraries can make decisions based on a current view of their collections.
"Choreo Insights is like a crystal ball," said Ian Welch, Associate University Librarian, Scholarly Communication and Collections, at Edith Cowan University. "We're using it to gain a clearer understanding of our library holdings and to evaluate vendor offers by comparing them against our physical collection. This helps us maximise the value of our e-resource spend and make more informed decisions when deselecting print items."
Edith Cowan University has over 31,000 students. Courses are offered at three campuses in Western Australia and its international campus in Sri Lanka. ECU's newest campus, ECU City, will open to students from semester one, 2026. Ahead of the opening of a new campus, Choreo Insights is helping the library to review and refine its print footprint.
"Choreo Insights has had a massive impact on my day-to-day work," said Poh Lin Teow, Collections Adviser at Edith Cowan University. "I used to spend hours matching different editions of print books with our ebook holdings in different ebook databases. But with Choreo Insights, we can generate a report that matches multiple items in a matter of minutes. We also use it to evaluate resources while in discussion with providers."
"We're delighted that Edith Cowan University is finding that Choreo Insights is key to helping them achieve very specific goals in their collection analysis," said Eric van Lubeek, Managing Director, OCLC EMEA/APAC. "We're confident that staff will uncover even more value as they continue to explore the solution's capabilities."
