Chaoyang University of Technology is now live with OCLC's WorldShare Management Services
New library management system upgrades Discovery for students and increases functionality for staff
LEIDEN, Netherlands, 23 November 2022—Chaoyang University of Technology, in Taiwan, is now live with OCLC's WorldShare Management Services as their new library services platform.
Chaoyang University of Technology is a private, technical university located in the Wufeng District in Central Taiwan. Founded in 1994, the university comprises six colleges and 24 departments, offering 22 Master's programs and five Doctoral programs to their 14,500 students. Chaoyang has placed in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for six consecutive years.
Chaoyang University of Technology (CYUT) is the first university in Taiwan to adopt OCLC's WorldShare Management Services (WMS), an advanced, cloud-based library services platform, to enhance their workflows and allow them to better manage their library's collections.
"We selected WMS because WorldCat delivers high quality metadata. We wanted to improve our staff workflows and achieve a better integration with our back-office and front-end systems. And we increased our worldwide visibility," said Hung-Chi Chu, Chief Officer for Library and Information at CYUT. "We also wanted to provide a better online catalog for our students. The new system will help our students, and us, advance in the use of Discovery and optimize the library's functionalities. The rich open access material available through WMS will also benefit the university's research program."
WorldShare Management Services (WMS) is a cloud-based library services platform with WorldCat as its foundation, which allows library staff to draw on OCLC's shared data network and technology for more efficient workflows. WMS also enables staff to better manage resources in all formats and to provide their users with improved access to the library's collections and the world's knowledge.
"We are very pleased to welcome CYUT to the WMS community. With WMS, CYUT will be positioned to improve the student experience and staff efficiencies," said Eric van Lubeek, Vice President, Managing Director, OCLC EMEA & APAC. "The introduction of WMS means that the library, and the university, can continue to meet their strategic priorities in research and innovation as part of OCLC's global network of libraries."
OCLC is a nonprofit global library organization that provides shared technology services, original research and community programs so that libraries can better fuel learning, research and innovation. Through OCLC, member libraries cooperatively produce and maintain WorldCat, the most comprehensive global network of data about library collections and services. Libraries gain efficiencies through OCLC’s WorldShare, a complete set of library management applications and services built on an open, cloud-based platform. It is through collaboration and sharing of the world’s collected knowledge that libraries can help people find answers they need to solve problems. Together as OCLC, member libraries, staff and partners make breakthroughs possible.
