Connect your users to the information they need.
Connect your library to the world.
Both FirstSearch® and WorldCat Discovery will continue to be offered separately. Access to the current version of FirstSearch will continue as we work to deliver critical functionality to WorldCat Discovery and finalize details to bring all FirstSearch users a new and improved WorldCat search experience. WorldCat Discovery remains the user-facing interface to WorldShare® Management Services.
At a date yet to be determined, PiCarta will be integrated in WorldCat Discovery, and WorldCat Local will be replaced entirely.
Additional details will be shared as they are confirmed. To receive ongoing updates about enhancements to the WorldCat Discovery service, register for Discovery and Reference email updates.
Search WorldCat, the world’s most comprehensive library database
Identify resources at your library and in the collections of the world’s libraries. Library users and staff use WorldCat Discovery to search the WorldCat database of electronic, digital and physical resources; to identify materials they need and to find out where they are available.
Expand your collection
You can discover more than 3 billion electronic, digital and physical resources with access to WorldCat and a central index that represents 2,483 e-content collections from providers such as EBSCO, Gale, ProQuest, Elsevier, Springer and others.
Simplify your search
A new, mobile-ready discovery interface provides consolidated access to your electronic, physical and digital collections through a single search. Staff-specific features, such as MARC views, support streamlined reference workflows.
Borrow, buy or connect to full text
Staff and users can choose from integrated delivery options: link directly to full text, link to your OPAC, borrow from another library or buy items directly from content sellers. Users connect to full text through built-in link resolution and an A to Z list when you have holdings in the WorldCat knowledge base. Interlibrary loan staff can use the full-featured searching and integrated ILL request button in WorldCat Discovery.
Be visible where users start their search
WorldCat Discovery connects users back to your library from WorldCat.org™ and more than 50 popular consumer websites, such as Google, Goodreads and Wikipedia, when your library uses an OCLC Cataloging Subscription to represent its collections in WorldCat.
Localize your discovery experience
Configure WorldCat Discovery to reflect your library's branding, select searchable content collections, present appropriate delivery choices, link to an OpenURL resolver or OPAC, and more.

"The major feature of WorldCat Discovery Services as a discovery tool is the global scale in which this service can help librarians. This type of tool has long been a dream of librarians and is now available and is particularly suitable for our institution."
Head Librarian, John Cabot University
WorldCat Discovery helps people easily find and get resources available at your library and in libraries worldwide through a single search of WorldCat and familiar, authoritative e-content collections. It also connects users to your collections via popular websites where people typically start their research.
