Jan Simane

Jan studied the history of art, archaeology and philosophy at the Universities of Heidelberg and Vienna. He has a Master of Art (1988) and Ph.D. (1991) from the University of Heidelberg, from 1991 to 1994 assistant at the Hessisches Landesmuseum in Darmstadt. 1994/1995 University for applied sciences (Göttingen / Frankfurt am Main): master in scientific librarianship. Since 1996 he has been the head librarian at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz, Max-Planck-Institut. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the International Project Art Discovery Group Catalogue (formerly artlibraries.net). From 2007 to 2014 he was a member of the Standing Committee of the Art Libraries Section of IFLA, from 2009 to 2013 Chair. Since 2015 member of the Standing Committee of Academic and Research Libraries in IFLA. Member of the international committee of the ‘Future of Art Bibliography'-Initiative. Currently, he is chair of the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Regional Council Executive Committee.
