The library of the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz, Max-Planck-Institut, is one of the oldest research libraries dedicated to art history. Today, the library fulfills the role of the central laboratory in the research institute. With a collection of 300,000 volumes and 2,800 journals it supports the daily work of about 70 researches and 90 guest readers. In my position as director of the library I manage the work of 19 staff members, among them librarians, academic librarians and assistants. My responsibilities also include title selection for acquisitions (about 7,000 titles p.a.). As director of an outstanding, internationally renowned research library I have collaborated intensively with various networks, projects, and professional committees over the last twenty years. Thus, I share expertise and involve the library in relevant developments of librarianship in general and of art libraries.
