For many years, OCLC has facilitated agreements between member libraries and their agents on a case-by-case basis, as requested by the OCLC member library. As a result, many of the existing agreements under which vendors use WorldCat data to provide services to OCLC member libraries apply only to services provided to one or more specific requesting libraries.
Under WorldCat Rights and Responsibilities for the OCLC Cooperative , the agent agreement concept introduces an ongoing effort by OCLC to establish "blanket" agreements with popular agents under which any OCLC member library may provide the agent with WorldCat data for purposes of receiving services from the agent.
Over the coming months OCLC will be working with many agents, including those that now have agreements applicable to specific member libraries only. We will be identifying as many as possible to add to this list of blanket agreements.
Through OCLC's Third Party Licensee Agreement, libraries may request and authorize any vendor to pick up WorldCat records from OCLC on the library's behalf for further processing.
Through OCLC's Third Party Cataloging and Record Processing Agreement, libraries may share one of their online cataloging authorizations with any vendor and authorize them to catalog online on the library's behalf.
