Accessibility mixer: SHARES and Metadata Managers Focus Group

Session B: Join us for a 90-minute open round robin to learn about how you are increasing the availability of accessible materials via resource sharing networks and/or reimagined metadata workflows.

This event has passed. Registration provided to nominated individuals only

Description

Join us for a 90-minute open round robin to learn about how you are increasing the availability of accessible materials via resource sharing networks and/or reimagined metadata workflows. This will be the first-ever joint SHARES and Metadata Managers meeting!

Disability advocates have been making progress on closing the availability gap for accessible print materials. Their efforts have resulted in several key developments that will increasingly impact metadata flowing from publishers who are seeking to comply with the European Accessibility Act (EAA) beginning in 2025. These developments are also driving changes in cataloging practices to allow this accessibility metadata to flow into our catalogs. Meanwhile, Marrakesh Treaty adoption has helped increase the movement of accessible copyrighted materials across national borders and into resource sharing networks. This session will build on earlier work of SHARES (ILL Accessibility Resources) and individual contributions of Metadata Managers who participate in PCC, IFLA, or RDA accessibility working groups.
