When I use WebDewey, I usually start by browsing the Relative Index, but because Dewey Numbers (With Captions) is the default browse index, I have to change the radio button to Relative Index every time I browse. Can anything be done about this?
Yes. The next quarterly update to WebDewey and Abridged WebDewey (scheduled for installation on Sunday, 31 March) will include a new option that allows you to choose your default browse index. Dewey Numbers (With Captions) will continue to be the default browse index, but if you want to change that, for one session or indefinitely (until you choose to change it again), here is what you do.
On the navigation bar on the left side of the screen, click General. Then choose Administration, Display/Update WebDewey (or Abridged WebDewey) Options. Toward the bottom of the screen you will see a new section, labeled "Browse Options." The section has a drop-down box that matches the list of indexes given on the main Browse screen in WebDewey. Simply choose the browse index you would like to be the default and then go to the bottom of the screen and choose "Use for this session only" or "Save as default" (use the "Reset" button if you are not satisfied with the option you chose and want to start over). You will receive a confirmation message and can then return to using WebDewey. Your new default takes effect immediately.
