Works in Progress Webinar: Ngangaanha (to care for)--Improving cultural safety at the University of Sydney Library

Works in Progress Webinar: Ngangaanha (to care for)--Improving cultural safety at the University of Sydney Library

By Antonia Mocatta, Nathan Sentance,

The University of Sydney Library considers diversity and inclusion a strategic priority. This includes working to ensure that all First Nations staff, students, and community members the Library interacts with feel safe, valued, and respected, and that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage within the Library’s collection is recognised and protected in line with Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property principles. The Library has recently published Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Protocols, which demonstrate its commitment to embedding culturally competent practice in all it does across services, spaces, and resources. This document is sector-leading for Australian academic libraries in its scale and scope. The Protocols were informed by a cultural audit undertaken by the Library in 2019, and written by Nathan Sentance as Cultural Adviser in Residence.
