NEWWorldShare Interlibrary Loan

Integrated discovery and delivery of electronic, digital and print materials within a single interface

OCLC WorldShare Interlibrary Loan is a new service that will replace WorldCat Resource Sharing as part of your existing resource sharing subscription in 2013. The service centralizes workflows now managed in multiple systems, and provides new functionality that speeds fulfillment of interlibrary loan requests and saves time for your staff and users. During 2013 and beyond, OCLC will expand WorldShare Interlibrary Loan with new functionality. Available now with initial features, by May 2013 the new service will provide most of the functionality available now in WorldCat Resource Sharing.  Additional functionality will continue to be added to the service on an ongoing basis.

WorldShare Interlibrary Loan will go beyond traditional interlibrary loan to provide a truly integrated delivery solution. It will integrate discovery and delivery of electronic, digital and print materials within a single interface. It will also support evolving workflow changes, such as the option to purchase needed items rather than borrow them.

The OCLC WorldShare Platform supports new features in WorldShare Interlibrary Loan that require interoperation with other applications, such as the display of lender costs from the Policies Directory and display of item availability from your library's integrated library system.

With the migration from WorldCat Resource Sharing to WorldShare Interlibrary Loan, OCLC will transform traditional interlibrary loan into a much broader fulfillment service with associated workflows. In the new service, interlibrary loan will be one of any number of fulfillment options your library may select according to the needs of your users and your library policies.
