RLP Research Support Leadership Roundtable: Examining library structures to resource and scale research support services

In this 90-minute discussion, RLP affiliates will discuss how their libraries are addressing growing demands for research support services, by considering staffing and organization models.

This event has passed. Registration provided to nominated individuals only

Description

Research libraries are experiencing increasing demand for an array of research support services, including data curation, systematic reviews, scholarly communications and open research, research expertise profiles, and research analytics, often in collaboration with other campus partners. However, this presents significant challenges for the resourcing and scaling of these services, and some research libraries are examining different models for providing research support, as supplements or even alternatives to the subject-oriented liaison model.

In this RLP leadership roundtable convening, we will discuss how libraries are responding to service demands, with a particular focus on library organization, staffing, and evolving roles of liaison librarians.

Format

Following a traditional roundtable format, representative(s) from each institution will have 3-5 minutes to offer brief comments about their relevant institutional practices.

In this convening, participants are asked to particularly consider:

  1. Briefly describe how research support services are currently staffed and provisioned in your library. (For example, is support provided by subject liaisons? Librarians in functional roles? A combination of the two? Other?)

  2. If there are challenges with the configuration, describe these. Where do you most need to grow?

  3.  If you are examining changing operational structures, please describe. Are there models you are considering emulating? Why?

RLP leadership roundtable discussions generally follow Chatham House Rules, to support open, trusted conversations.
