IE 7.0 Microsoft Update: New and for current IE 7.0 users

On February 12, 2008 Microsoft, for security reasons will push IE 7.0. out to all Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) users. The article explaining Microsoft position can be found here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;946202 this article also describes a way in which to block this automatic upgrade to IE 7.0.

Recently WRSR has experienced issues with IE 7.0 not allowing the .PDF download to be displayed. This can be solved by adjusting the security setting with IE 7.0 to the following:

First, close down all active applications (including Outlook, Word, and all instances of IE, etc.)

1. Open your browser
2.Select the following options:

Tools
Internet Options
Security
Trusted Sites
Change- "Security Level for this Zone" to LOW with the Slider Bar (Default Level is Medium) LOW IS THE PREFERRED SETTING, but will work on MEDIUM LOW. Next select the SITES button and add *.oclc.org to the trusted sites. Make sure the “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone” is UNCHECKED, if not you will get a warning "Sites added to this zone must use the https:// prefix. This prefix assures a secure connection" - click on the OK, uncheck, and then add again.
Click on Close
Click on Ok to exit from menu
Close your browser.

3. Open your browser and continue your work.

Users can also add *.oclc.org to the list of trusted browsers by opening an IE browser window click on Tools, click on Internet Options, click on the Security tab, click on "sites" - to the right of Trusted Sites.Put  *.oclc.org, in the "Add this Web site to the zone" box Unclick the server verification / https: requirement Click Add Click OK Click OK.

When IE 7.0 was first rolled out a year ago WCRS users reported several issues while using IE 7.0. These issues were hoped to be solved by switching the printout to .PDF documents instead of HTML. Please contact OCLC Customer Support at support@oclc.org or 1-800-848-5800. If you experience any of the following issues after February 12, 2008.

1.        Only every other page of the pending requests prints with texts. The other pages only have a header and footer and the rest of the page is blank.
2.        Batch Printing from the default One Request Per Page prints out in very small type.
