FLORENCE, Italy, 10 May 2021—The University of Milano-Bicocca (Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca) has selected OCLC's WorldShare Management Services as their library services platform to improve access to print and digital collections for students on campus as well as those studying remotely.

WorldShare Management Services (WMS) is a cloud-based platform with WorldCat as its foundation, which allows library staff to draw on OCLC's shared data network and technology for more efficient workflows. WMS also enables staff to better manage resources in all formats and to provide their users with improved access to the library's collections and the world's knowledge.

"Switching library systems is an adventure, and I am hopeful that with WMS the library will be able to meet the new demands of our users," said Maurizio di Girolamo, Library Director, University of Milano-Bicocca. "I expect the ‘hybrid' library will continue to be a dominant model, so we needed a system that is flexible enough to manage both print and digital resources for on-site and remote services. WMS and its innovative technological solutions will contribute to the achievement of our university goals in teaching, research, and other activities."

"User satisfaction and the quality of our services is at the heart of everything that we do. With OCLC as our partner, I am sure we will succeed," di Girolamo added.

The University of Milano-Bicocca, established in 1998, is a multidisciplinary university that offers a wide range of academic programs. The university serves 32,000 students.

"We are delighted to welcome the University of Milano-Bicocca to the WMS community. With WMS, the university will be well positioned to bring together traditional and digital library services to meet the needs of all their users," said Eric van Lubeek, Vice President, Managing Director, OCLC EMEA & APAC.

About the University of Milano-Bicocca

The University of Milano-Bicocca was founded with the aim of establishing research as the strategic cornerstone of all institutional activities—research as the broadening of knowledge and the qualification of academic activity, as a tool for interacting with the territory and a contribution towards the development of the production system.

The University has stable and close-knit relations with the business world, dedicating particular attention to the local area while also focusing on the international dimension. In just a few years, important results have been achieved, like the high number of citations at an international level of publications by teachers and researchers.

Scientific research, technological exploitation and transfer, internationalization and training are the instruments through which Milano-Bicocca pursues its mission: to contribute to the development of society by promoting the cultural and civil growth of individuals and supporting a culture founded on the universal values of human rights, peace, international solidarity and environmental protection.

Milano-Bicocca is a multidisciplinary University that trains professionals in different fields: economics/statistics, law, science, medicine, sociology, psychology and pedagogy.
