Metadata Panel: Using AI ethically and effectively

Ethics, AI, and cataloging: A practical approach

Northwestern University librarians will discuss ethical codes and statements of principles related to cataloging and AI, including using them to assess the benefits and risks of implementing AI technologies in cataloging workflows. They will share practical tips and a checklist they developed to perform an ethical analysis for using AI technologies.

A principled approach to AI and metadata

Co-chairs of the PCC (Program for Cooperative Cataloging) Task Group on AI and Machine Learning for Cataloging and Metadata will provide key takeaways from their group's final report, explaining how principles can guide daily cataloging work and providing information about PCC initiatives open to all catalogers for sharing AI knowledge. The PCC is an international cooperative effort among libraries to create and share high-quality, standardized bibliographic and authority records.

OCLC cataloging products and services update

Catalog faster and smarter with help from new AI tools in WorldShare Record Manager and Connexion

Catalogers can now choose to see AI-generated suggestions for classification numbers and subject headings as they create or edit records in Record Manager and Connexion. Alexis Fintel and Petra Löffel will demonstrate how to implement these new tools and show how catalogers stay in full control via customizable settings. Before closing out this section, there will be time for questions.
