Data Migration: updating Local Holding Records and Local Bibliographic Data using OCLC’s Metadata and Collection Management APIs

In 2019, McGill University Library migrated its library system to WorldShare. Learn how they improved data quality and ensured all data was migrated by automatically updating Local Holding Records and Local Bibliographic Data using OCLC’s Metadata and Collection Management APIs to add notes.

In 2019, McGill University Library migrated, its library system to WorldShare. One of the main challenges of a system migration is improving data quality and ensuring all data is migrated.

One challenge was that notes attached to Local Holding Records in our previous system were not migrated with our bibliographic data; adding the notes became a post-migration project. First, we cleaned and sorted the notes to ensure they were necessary and not just legacy information. Finally, we automatically and manually added the notes to the WorldShare bibliographic data.

This presentation will outline the work of automatically updating Local Holding Records and Local Bibliographic Data using OCLC’s Metadata and Collection Management APIs to add the notes.
