I like to use the keyboard, but find that I have to use my mouse or press the tab key multiple times after I change the default index on the Search screen.

WebDewey and Abridged WebDewey users will soon be able to navigate more effectively with the keyboard.  After our December 22, 2002 install, the following changes will be apparent:

  • The return key will submit a Search, quick Search and quick Browse, even after the default index has been changed.  For example, if you want to search "cell" in the Relative Index, you can enter the term "cell," click [Tab], type "r" (to bring up the Relative Index), and press [Enter].  Previously, after changing the default index, you had to press the tab key several times or use your mouse before entering your search.
  • The cursor in the View Record box will be in highlight mode, to permit keyboard navigation of records in results lists.  For example, if you want to View Record result number 7, you simply type "7" and [enter].  Previously, if you wanted to view a record other than the first result, you had to delete number 1 and type in the record number, or use your mouse to highlight and type over number 1 in the View Record box.
  • When viewing records from a results set, you can return to the same relative spot in the list.  For example, previously, when you retrieved 56 records, after viewing record number 23, if you selected the "Search Results" button, you would be returned to the first page of results.  After viewing record number 23, when you select "Search Results," you will be returned to the second page of results.

Again, these changes are scheduled for availability after December 22, 2002.
