OCLC expands Dewey services with Spanish-language translation
Spanish-language Dewey services broadens support for global library communities
OCLC, the worldwide leader in library cataloging and metadata services, is pleased to announce the availability of Dewey services in Spanish, expanding the scope, reach, and value of the data and infrastructure to better serve Spanish-speaking library professionals and communities around the world.
Through a strategic partnership with Referencistas, the Spanish-language translation of WebDewey and Dewey linked data is key to supporting library communities worldwide, and reflects OCLC’s commitment to making high-quality metadata and infrastructure accessible and useful to all libraries, regardless of the language in which they work.
Building on the August 2024 launch of Dewey linked data, Spanish-language Dewey linked data connects subject classifications to Works entities in WorldCat Entities using uniform resource identifiers (URIs). Further, more than 138 million Dewey URIs have been added to MARC records in WorldCat, enriching knowledge graphs that power discovery for information seekers across the world.
A base set of Spanish-language Dewey linked data is freely available to view and access, supporting integration into local data management and discovery systems. Current WebDewey subscribers can take immediate advantage of Spanish-language support across the full range of Dewey linked data URIs, associated metadata, and available APIs—all included as part of their existing subscription.
