Reinhard Altenhöner
Deputy General Director, Staatsbibliothek Berlin
Reinhard Altenhöner has been Deputy General Director of the Staatsbibliothek Berlin / Preußischer Kulturbesitz in Berlin, Germany, since 2015. He was previously Head of Information Infrastructure and Conservation at the German National Library from 2003 to 2015. Areas of expertise include IT infrastructure, digital services and process reorganization with special emphasis on metadata management, data governance, digital archiving, and strategic process management, as well as organizational restructuring. He held leadership positions at the German Research Foundation (DFG) in Bonn, directed the library of a University of Applied Sciences in Münster, and headed the scientific city library and public library in Mainz.
Of interest to Mr. Altenhöner are standardization, data/data interoperability, and semantic technologies. He is a member of several committees and scientific steering boards, regularly presents at conferences, publishes works as an evaluator for various national and international programs, and teaches at two universities. He sits on steering committees for Germany's National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) and Specialized Information Services (FID) programs and is involved in the Joint Library Network (GBV) consortium management. Mr. Altenhöner has served on OCLC Councils since 2019.
