The Virtual International Authority File (VIAF) API allows searching for authority data by keyword, local name, preferred name form, title, source, or control number of source records and retrieves authority records and relationships between authority records from different, international sources. Join us at this online Workshop to learn more about how you can put the VIAF API to work at your library.

Ralph LeVan, Senior Research Scientist at OCLC, will start us off with an overview of the data, the API, and its features. Special guests Joe Atzberger and Bobbi Fox will talk about their experience working with the VIAF API on a Developer House group project. They’ll show us the autocomplete widget the group created and take us on a code walkthrough. We’ll include some practical use cases and leave plenty of time for Q&A in this hour long API Workshop.

You'll come away with a better understanding of how the API works, some ideas for implementation, and answers to the questions you bring.
