President and Chief Executive Officer Robert L. "Jay" Jordan
Jay Jordan became the fourth president in OCLC's 38-year history in May 1998. He came to OCLC after a 24-year career with Information Handling Services, an international publisher of databases, where he held a series of key positions in top management, including president of IHS Engineering.
Jay graduated from Colgate University in 1965 with a B.A. in English literature and served as a U.S. Army officer in Germany. He has spent more than seven years living and working outside the United States.
Jay is active in professional organizations, including the American Library Association and the Special Libraries Association. He is a Fellow of the Standards Engineering Society.
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer Rick J. Schwieterman
Rick Schwieterman was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 2007. In this role, he oversees all enterprise activities related to Finance, Accounting, OCLC’s Board of Trustees administration, Human Resources, Administrative Services, and organizational controls, policies and procedures. He also oversees corporate governance, corporate real estate holdings and OCLC’s investment portfolio. Rick joined OCLC in 1992 as Vice President, Finance and Treasurer. He was named Chief Financial Officer in 1994. From 1972 to 1992, he was with the international accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche LLP, becoming a partner in 1984 and partner-in-charge of the Columbus, Ohio office’s Emerging Business Services practice in 1987.
Vice President, WorldCat and Metadata Services Karen Calhoun
Karen Calhoun joined OCLC as Vice President, OCLC WorldCat and Metadata Services, in May 2007. In this role, Ms. Calhoun is charged with charting a course for the future of cataloging and metadata services and extending WorldCat’s global reach. Ms. Calhoun worked for OCLC from 1986 through 1996, serving in the OCLC Library Resources Management Division. From 1996 to April 2007, Ms. Calhoun served in leadership positions at Cornell University Library, most recently as Senior Associate University Librarian for Information Technology and Technical Services. Recently Ms. Calhoun, who is active professionally in research and as a speaker, was principal investigator for The Changing Nature of the Catalog and its Integration with Other Discovery Tools, a Library of Congress-commissioned study that proposed new directions for the library catalog in the digital era. She holds a bachelor's degree from Bucknell University, an M.S. in library and information science from Drexel University, and an M.B.A. from Franklin University.
Managing Director, OCLC Europe, Middle East and Africa Rein van Charldorp
Rein joined OCLC as Managing Director in 2002. Rein spent 20 years at Reed Elsevier in science and business publishing, where he most recently was chief operating officer, Reed Business Information Netherlands. A Dutch citizen, Rein was born in Indonesia. He received a master of science degree in chemistry and a doctorate in science from Leiden University. He received his master’s degree in business administration from Nijenrode University in the Netherlands/Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, United States.
Vice President, Library Services for the Americas Bruce Crocco
Bruce Crocco was named Vice President, Library Services for the Americas, in August 2007. In this position, he oversees sales and library services in the United States and Canada, and manages customer support, market analysis and sales programs. He also works closely with product management teams to provide input and intelligence regarding product strategy. Bruce joined OCLC in 2002 and most recently served as Executive Director for Market Programs and Development. He has a background managing multi-functional workgroups across a variety of geographies. Before coming to OCLC in 2002, Bruce was Director, Global Product Management for NetMap Analytics in Columbus.
Vice President, OCLC Research and Chief Strategist Lorcan Dempsey
Lorcan Dempsey is OCLC Chief Strategist and Vice President Research. Before moving to OCLC he worked for JISC in the UK, overseeing national information programs and services. He is a librarian who has worked for library and educational organizations in Ireland, England and the US. He has consulted for the EU, and national policy and service organizations in several countries. He has policy, research and service development experience, mostly in the area of networked information and digital libraries. He writes and speaks extensively, and can be followed on the web at Lorcan Dempsey's weblog (http://orweblog.oclc.org). He is currently a member of the NISO Board and an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
Vice President for the Americas and Global Vice President of Marketing Catherine K. De Rosa
Cathy De Rosa is Vice President for the Americas and Global Vice President of Marketing for OCLC. Cathy joined OCLC in 2001. Prior to joining OCLC, she served on the faculty of the Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University, where she taught e-business marketing. From 1994 to 2000, she was a Vice President at Symix Systems, an enterprise technology company serving manufacturing and service companies. Prior to joining Symix, she was a Senior Consultant with Price Waterhouse, serving technology companies in Boston, Massachusetts, and San Jose, California. She also has held management positions at Micro Card Technologies and Texas Instruments. Cathy received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Arizona and a master’s of business administration degree from the Harvard Business School.
Vice President and General Counsel James T. Houfek
Jim was named to his current position in 1998. He joined OCLC in 1993 as Senior Attorney and became Director of Legal Affairs and General Counsel in 1997. Prior to joining OCLC, he was Vice President and General Counsel for the Newtowne Companies from 1990 to 1993. He was Chairman and General Counsel for the Oakhurst Company from 1983 to 1990. A practicing attorney since 1969, Jim received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame, in Indiana, and a Juris Doctor from Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio.
Vice President of RLG Programs Development Jim Michalko
Prior to joining OCLC in 2006, Jim was President and CEO of the Research Libraries Group (RLG), a global, not-for-profit membership corporation and information service provider. In this role for 16 years he responded to the needs of research institutions and represented the intersection of libraries, museums and archives in professional forums and conferences. RLG Programs combined with OCLC Research to create the leading venue for applied research, community building and prototyping of future systems and services in support of the research information community. Before directing RLG, Jim held positions in private industry (medical technology, merger and acquisition analysis), the University of Chicago libraries and the University of Pennsylvania libraries. He holds graduate degrees from the University of Chicago (MBA and MLS) and was an undergraduate at Georgetown University (BA).
Vice President, Global Product Management Robin Murray
Robin Murray was named Vice President, OCLC Global Product Management, in 2007. He leads an international team responsible for delivering the organization’s enterprise product strategy. In 1999, Robin was appointed Managing Director and CEO of Fretwell-Downing Informatics, which is now part of OCLC. A thought leader within the information technology arena for more than 15 years, Robin is internationally recognized as an expert in information systems architecture, information integration and digital libraries. He has served on the European Expert Group for Libraries, and served on the board of NISO, the American National Information Standards Organisation. Robin has also provided strategic consultancy world-wide for information, education, e-government and information integration systems involving large scale academic and public organizations and businesses.
Vice President, Global and Regional Councils George M. Needham
Before joining OCLC in 1999, George was State Librarian of Michigan. From 1993 to 1996, he was Executive Director of the Public Library Association, a division of the American Library Association. From 1990 to 1993, he was Director of Member Services of the Ohio Library Association. From 1984 to 1989, he served as Library Director of Fairfield County District Library in Lancaster, Ohio. From 1977 to 1984, he held various posts at the Charleston County Library in Charleston, South Carolina. George received a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in library science from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Vice President, Business Development William "Chip" Nilges
Chip Nilges was promoted to Vice President, Business Development, in 2007. He is responsible for OCLC’s content strategy, which includes OCLC’s NetLibrary collections of eBooks and eAudiobooks, as well as the OCLC FirstSearch online reference service and the OCLC Electronic Collections Online service. Chip was formerly Vice President, New Product Planning, and before that was Executive Director, OCLC WorldCat Content and Global Access. He joined OCLC in 1994 and has held several key roles including leadership of FirstSearch, new products and WorldCat content. Chip holds a master’s degree in business administration, a master’s in English, and a bachelor’s degree in English, all from Ohio State University.
Vice President, Corporate Human Resources Tammi Spayde
Tammi was named Vice President, Corporate Human Resources in December 2005. Prior to joining OCLC, she was Vice President, Human Resources and Organizational Development for Dominion Homes, Inc. From 1998 to 2002 she was Vice President, Human Resources and Organizational Development for Inoveris (formerly Metatec). From 1984 to 1998 she held various management positions at Ohio Health. Tammi received her bachelor of arts, sociology degree from The Ohio State University.
Vice President, Enterprise Architecture Michael A. Teets
Mike was named Vice President, Global Product Architecture, in July 2005. He was formerly Executive Director, Product Architecture and Development. From 1999 to 2003, Mike was Director, Cooperative Discovery Services Development Division. He was Director, Reference Services Development from 1994 to 1999 and was Manager, Online Systems from 1993 to 1994. From 1991 to 1993, he was Manager, Online Reference Support (infrastructure), and was Manager, Data Management from 1989 to 1991. Mike started his work at OCLC in 1986 as a research assistant following his graduation from Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Computer and Information Science, Information Systems, Engineering College.
Vice President, OCLC Asia Pacific ็่กไป (Andrew H. Wang)
Andrew H. Wang was promoted to Vice President, OCLC Asia Pacific, in March 2007. He has served the library community in a variety of capacities during his 31 years with OCLC, most recently as Executive Director, OCLC Asia Pacific Services. Before he was named Executive Director in 1999, he served as Director of OCLC Asia Pacific Services since 1986. He joined OCLC in 1976, and under his leadership, OCLC developed the Retrospective Conversion service, TechPro and the OCLC Chinese-Japanese-Korean cataloging system. He has been instrumental in establishing significant collaborative library projects in Asia Pacific.
Vice President, Global Engineering Greg Zick
Greg joined OCLC in 2006. From 1974 to 2001, he was a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington, where his research group worked in the area of database applications in medicine and libraries including the initial version of CONTENTdm. From 2001 to 2006 he served as President of DiMeMa, the company that continued development and sales of CONTENTdm in the digital library market. Greg received a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois. He also holds a Masters and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
