API Explorer Improvements

We released a minor version upgrade to the API Explorer today. Improvements are based on user feedback and include:

  • Improved scaling of the results page as the window is resized - allows the page to be narrower before switching from a horizontal to a vertical configuration.
  • Handles very large return sets more efficiently, with improved font sizes and more compact xml nesting.
  • Improved Unicode support.
  • Displays escaped characters as escaped characters, similar to wget results.

Together, these fixes improve the user experience for working with the VIAF API, and the SRU Search in particular.

The API Explorer is the go-to tool for users who want to learn about and try OCLC API’s in a sandbox environment, or with their own keys for their own institutions. As OCLC’s family of Web services continues to grow, we continue to update the API Explorer to handle the expanding variety of results.
