Bureau des conférenciers
Thom Hickey joined OCLC in 1977 when he helped found the research department, and has been Chief Scientist since 1994.
Thom’s research and interests involve electronic publishing, information retrieval and display, and metadata creation and editing systems. He currently leads a group that is investigating algorithms for the FRBR grouping of bibliographic metadata, distributed authority control, parallel processing of large metadata sets, and standards-based approaches to library data. His group is responsible for several open-source systems, including software for text retrieval, OAI-PMH and the PURL HTTP redirection system. Thom also led the research that resulted in OCLC’s Primary Journals Online service; guiding the group that designed and developed the Guidon interface for electronic journals; led the development of the original FirstSearch interface; started the CORC project that was later developed into OCLC’s Connexion cataloging interface; and developed WorldCat Identities.
Thom is available to speak on topics related to name matching, the future of the library catalog, and metadata creation and editing systems.
