WorldCat Local

Access to WorldCat Local ends 9 August 2019.

When WorldCat Discovery was released in 2014, we let you know it would eventually replace the WorldCat Local service. Now that WorldCat Discovery delivers functionality beyond that in WorldCat Local, we plan to retire WorldCat Local on 9 August 2019.

OCLC offers personal support as you prepare and release your library's WorldCat Local site. An Implementation Manager will work with you and your staff to configure WorldCat Local to meet your library's needs.

There are a number of steps you can take to ensure a smooth transition as you begin to integrate WorldCat Local with your current library system:

Step 1: Make sure your library's holdings are current in WorldCat. See Data integration for WorldCat Local for more information.

Step 2: As appropriate, view recordings of previous sessions.

  • The WorldCat Local Customization sessions provide a walk-through of the OCLC Service Configuration modules and an overview of the implementation timeline.

Step 3: OCLC will send an e-mail with a link to the OCLC Service Configuration site. Use this to request a Service Configuration account, and complete your configuration. Most of the changes you make are visible immediately.

Step 4: Once you are satisfied with your WorldCat Local configuration choices, use the Search box Tool to create a search box and the HTML code you'll need to embed your WorldCat Local search box on your library's website.
