Library Director, Kalamazoo College
Stacy Nowicki came to Kalamazoo College as Reference Librarian in 2000 and has been Library Director since 2006. At Kalamazoo, she managed the implementation of RFID technology, administered the ILS, supervised the physical expansion and redesign of library spaces, and oversees the College’s institutional repository. She is a member of the Library of Michigan Board of Trustees and has participated in the Michigan Library Association Leadership Academy as well as the Harvard Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians. Stacy holds a B.A. from Oberlin College, an M.M. from Northwestern University, and an M.L.I.S. from Dominican University. She also earned a Ph.D. in Information Science from Nova Southeastern University, studying how students rank search engine results for relevance, and a J.D. from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School. Stacy was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Calgary School of Medicine in 2015 for her work in animal law and public health.
Stacy serves on the Library of Michigan Board of Trustees and will chair that group next year. She is a member of the Oberlin Group (a group of small liberal arts college libraries in the U.S.) and served on the Incorporation Task Force – this next year she will help incorporate that organization. She is currently working with other academic libraries in Michigan on a shared ILS project, and is a former board member of the Michigan Academic Library Council. She was Information Literacy Roundtable chair for the Michigan Library Association and currently serves on the MLA board’s nominating committee. Stacy is a mentor in the ACRL College Library Director Mentoring Program, and participated in the Michigan Library Association Leadership Academy as well as the Harvard.
