Library Director, Koç University
Tuba Akbayturk has been working for Koc University since 1998. She started her career as a systems librarian following graduation from Indiana University with an MLS. Tuba is also proud of being a 1st year IFLA/OCLC Fellow. She was appointed as Library Director in 2011. Budget management, Collection development, e-resources management, library automation, resource sharing, digitization and user services are some of the areas she is responsible for. Tuba is involved with library reorganization, library space repurposing and digitization projects intensively. She speaks English, French as well as Turkish. She earned her BS from Boğaziçi University Molecular Biology and Genetics prior to her library degree. She is actively involved with EAHIL (European Association for Health Information and Libraries). Under her directorship, Koc University Library hosted their annual conference in Istanbul in 2011. In following years, she continued to serve in the International Program Committees (2013 and 2015). LIBER General Annual Conference was also hosted at Koc University in 2008.
Tuba was the Anatolian University Libraries Consortium (ANKOS) Steering Committee Member responsible for negotiations since 2012, now she serves as ANKOS President for the term of 2016 - 2018. ANKOS since its establishment in 2000, plays a fundamental role in advancing university libraries in Turkey and works to enable more scientific information to research community in Turkey for better prices. It also aims to transform librarianship within the framework of international standards. Her roles as ANKOS President includes but not limited to overseeing nearly 100 negotiations per year with publishers, to organize Annual ANKOS Conference called ANKOSLink and to plan other ANKOS related activities such as international librarian exchange program and ANKOS Akademi online training program. ANKOSLink is becoming a popular regional event with increasing number of participants from Turkey and abroad. ANKOS leads the ILL activities in Turkey with home grown platform called KITS. The ANKOS Librarian Exchange Program gained an international perspective on its 5th year with 3 participants from Kosovo and Azerbaijan. Tuba is also managing a project called BiblioPera. Supported by Istanbul Development Agency, and developed by Koç University Library with the partnership of Istanbul Research Institute, Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations, SALT Research, Deutsches Archäologisches Institut-Istanbul, Netherlands Institute in Turkey, Institut Français d'Études Anatoliennes, Orient-Institut Istanbul, Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul, and Sismanoglio Megaro, BiblioPera’s mission is to promote historical, archaeological, and social scientific research on Turkey, and grant Beyoglu a new identity of research.
