Dg. Rukiah Ag. Amit
Chief Librarian, Universiti Malaysia Sabah
Dg. Rukiah has been working at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for 20 years since 1st March 1996. She has a bachelor degree in Sociology, and a Master in Library and Information Science from Indiana State University, Indiana, USA from 1983 to 1988. Before she joined UMS, she worked with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Library for five years from 1991 to 1996.
Her role as Chief Librarian is to manage Library administration and provide the best service to library users, and making policies, rules and regulations to maintain the quality of library facilities and services. Dg. Rukiah has a staff of 120 that help run the library with a collection of almost 400,000 books, 5, 000,000 eBooks and electronic databases. She has three branches, two Reading Service Centres and two Clinical Blocks; UMS Library at International Labuan Campus, UMS Library at Sandakan Campus, and UMS Medical Library and Tawau Reading service centre, Sikuati, Kudat Reading Service Centre and including two library services at Clinical Block in Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Clinical Block at Kingfisher, Likas.
Dg. Rukiah has been a member of Malaysian Librarian Association since 1992. Her library also teaches information literacy to 10 faculties and three research institutes within the university, doing outreach to school libraries in the region and giving their corporate social responsibility to community within the countries.
