OCLC Americas Regional Council Meeting 2017
Presenters, attendees, and guests at the 2017 Americas Regional Council meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, shared ideas, stories, examples, and challenges that helped us all better define what makes for smarter libraries. Whether you couldn't attend--or were there and want to see all the parallel break-outs--take a look at the presentations, visual summary images, and video links, below. There was a lot of "smart" in the room, and we hope you can take advantage of what we learned for use at your library.
What does it take to become a smarter library?
We are pleased to report that the first OCLC Americas Regional Council Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, was a great success! This inaugural meeting consisted of two days of connecting with fellow OCLC member library staff and leaders to share ideas, learnings, and insights on what it takes to become a “smarter library.”
We had nearly 200 attendees representing 4 countries and 36 US states join us this year. Dr. Carla D. Hayden, Librarian of Congress; Katherine Maher, Executive Director, Wikimedia Foundation; and Skip Prichard, President and CEO, OCLC served as our keynote speakers. Another 61 presenters covered topics including technology, innovation, and community.
In the spirit of sharing knowledge to help create smarter libraries, we have made select presentations, videos, and photos from the 2017 OCLC Americas Regional Council Meeting publicly available so that everyone has the opportunity to watch, download, and share with colleagues.
- Session presentations and an event highlights video are available on the Agenda page of the conference website. Watch and download PDFs of presentation materials and share the links with colleagues.
- Conference memories are also documented on OCLC's Twitter and Instagram accounts. Be sure to follow OCLC's social media accounts so that you’re among the first to know about future event announcements.
- Looking to the future. Given the tremendous response to this year's conference, we have already begun planning for 2018. In the next few months, we'll announce more details for next year's conference, so stay tuned.
We hope you can join us in Chicago for ARC18!
