Satellite Meeting

Authority data provide knowledge organization that helps the Web of Data work as it should.
The VIAF® (Virtual International Authority File) combines multiple name authority files into a single OCLC-hosted name authority service. The goal of the service is to lower the cost and increase the utility of library authority files by matching and linking widely-used authority files and making that information available on the Web. VIAF has become an important hub in the Semantic Web.
This ½ day event will include an overview of VIAF—a service that relies significantly on the cooperation of libraries from around the world—and presentations of use cases that illustrate VIAF's value.
