Lorcan Dempsey to speak at ARL Fall Forum 2013 in Arlington, VA on Friday, 11 October
The ARL Fall Forum 2013, "Mobilizing the Research Enterprise," will take place 10-11 October 2013 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA. The event will explore the opportunities and collaborations in responding to the White House memorandum on "Increasing Access to the Results of Federally Funded Research." Sessions will cover a range of topics including infrastructure, discovery, policy issues, and data management/data sharing.
Lorcan Dempsey, OCLC Vice President, Research, and Chief Strategist, as well as OCLC Research Library Partnership Vice President Jim Michalko and Program Officer Jackie Dooley will attend the event.
Lorcan will speak as a panelist during the "Facilitating new Forms of Discovery" session on Friday, 11 October from 11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. ET in Salon III. The focus of the session is Discovery of federally funded research publications and digital data. Lorcan and co-panelist Larry Lannom, Director of Information Services and Vice President, Corporation for National Research Initiatives (CNRI), will discuss possible search and discovery strategies across a potential new corpus of content, the challenges that providers have as they make this content available, and what critical next steps could be considered by various stakeholders to ensure that the new federal requirements achieve their stated purpose. Clifford A. Lynch, Executive Director, Coalition for Networked Information, will moderate the session.
