Metadata Schema Transformation Services

Our goal is to develop metadata schema transformation services for designers of Web-based digital libraries.

Many digital library projects and standards organizations are trying to lower the barriers to the management of digital resources by implementing some measure of interoperability

The results of these efforts illustrate a wide range of solutions, including the development of

  • metadata standards and crosswalks
  • metadata registries
  • data dictionaries
  • distributed searching
  • standardized indexing.

This variety reflects the fact that interoperability can be interpreted conceptually from several standpoints:

  • semantically
  • technically
  • politically
  • legally

Our project focuses on technical interoperability. We are developing a generalized model of metadata translation that addresses theoretical issues as well as practical needs.
