IMLS letter to state health departments about REALM

IMLS /

The Institute of Museum and Library Services has sent a letter to all U.S. state health departments that provides information about the REALM project. In the letter, IMLS Director Crosby Kemper noted:

"Our goal for this ongoing research is to provide an up-to-date, fuller understanding to policymakers and the museum, library, and archival communities regarding how long the SARS-CoV-2 virus can remain on common materials and surfaces found in their often high-trafficked public spaces. Many of the findings may be relevant as you develop policies for reopening other public institutions as well."

Staff at U.S.-based archives, libraries and museums are encouraged to read and share the letter, which outlines the goals and findings of REALM research, with their county or city health department and other local decision-makers. REALM toolkit resources can also be used to support those conversations. All REALM resources are published under a Creative Commons license and may be shared, repurposed, and distributed.
