Debbie Schachter is an academic library leader, higher education teacher and researcher who represents libraries in Canadian and international consortia, co-operatives and associations. Debbie is the Director of the Library and Learning Commons at Langara College in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. During her career, Debbie has held leadership positions in academic public and special libraries, most recently as University Librarian at Capilano University in North Vancouver, Canada; Director of Learning Resources & Records Management at Douglas College in New Westminster, Canada, and previously as a member of the Senior Management Team at Vancouver Public Library. Debbie was chair of the OCLC Global Council and Chair of the America’s Regional Council in 2019-20, and a delegate to the Global Council delegate from 2013 to 2021.
Debbie holds a Doctor of Education from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, with research conducted into critical information literacy teaching in higher education. Debbie also holds a BA in History and English and a Master of Library Science from the University of British Columbia, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, Canada.
