An OCLC webinar series: Digging deeper into what makes WMS unique

Everything you need for an advanced cloud-based library management system

Shared data

WorldCat serves as the foundation of WMS, providing bibliographic data to simplify many workflows. Beyond WorldCat, WMS allows libraries to share serials patterns, license terms, vendor records, and other information, decreasing redundant tasks across libraries.

Shared infrastructure

WMS libraries benefit from shared technology infrastructure, which allows shared servers, simultaneous and automatic software updates, simplified communication with other libraries, and integration with other OCLC services.

Shared community

WMS users are part of an active community within OCLC, a nonprofit library cooperative, and can collaborate to share best practices and suggest WMS enhancements to OCLC staff members--all which continues to guide the system's development and advancement.

“Using Acquisitions has saved our library staff time and improved accuracy since we’re able to manage everything online and in the system. Before, we used Excel spreadsheets and paper.”

“When we're weeding our reference collection, if we want something to move up to the main stacks, we can kind of do that right on the go. With Digby, inventory is easy. Location changes are great.”

Emma Hill Kepron,
Digital Initiatives Librarian, The University of Winnipeg

“We had an ERM module in our old system. It was a separate module that didn't communicate with our ILS. What I like about WMS and electronic resources is that not only is purchasing so much easier, everything is interrelated and seamless.”

John Fobert
Electronic Resources Librarian, Roger Williams University

"A steady increase in digital resources … has fundamentally transformed the library environment. This is why the libraries of 18 Québec universities joined forces to set up a shared cloud computing service platform. [WMS] will help us to seamlessly share resources in a variety of formats and languages.”
