Brenda Mathenia

Brenda is a born and raised Michigander but has spent the last 17 years living in the western United States and moved to western Canada in June 2009. Brenda earned her Masters of Science in Information (MSI) from the University of Michigan in 1999. Since then she has held various professional roles at multiple institutions including the University of Michigan, Montana State University, University of Nevada-Reno, and the University of Lethbridge. Brenda recently completed a five-year contract as University Librarian at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia and is currently on earned administrative leave until January 2019.

Brenda also holds a Masters in Urban Planning (MUP 1992), and a Bachelor of Science (BS 1987) degree in Geography with a Cartography Specialization (BS 1987) both from Michigan State University and worked for ten years as a cartographer, geographer and urban planner, within local and state government and the telecommunications field prior to attaining her library degree.

Brenda’s varied work experience across several related disciplines means she brings unique perspectives to the field of librarianship and information access. She possesses a unique combination of experience in planning, government service, map librarianship, reference/instruction, electronic resource and collection management, science librarianship, library management and change leadership to her profession and her role as an OCLC ARC Delegate.
