University of Aruba Library selects OCLC WorldShare Management Services

University of Aruba is the first library in the Caribbean to implement OCLC WorldShare Management Services

DUBLIN, Ohio, June 10, 2013— University of Aruba (UA) Library has become the first library in the Caribbean to implement OCLC WorldShare Management Services, which provide a Web-based environment that streamlines cataloging, acquisitions, license management and circulation workflows, and offers the WorldCat Local discovery service for its users.

UA Library’s decision to adopt WorldShare Management Services helped align the library’s strategic direction with that of the university’s efforts to strengthen and promote a supportive learning environment for students, as well as increase its regional and international cooperation.

“It is almost impossible to describe all of the benefits that we are experiencing as a result of selecting OCLC’s WorldShare Management Services,” said Léonie Boerkamp, Library Coordinator, University of Aruba. “The system is so easy to use. We no longer feel alone and we are proud to be part of the OCLC cooperative. We feel enriched, empowered and relieved to have this system—plus, we now have time for many other high-priority tasks.”

“In addition to streamlining traditional tasks of cataloging, ordering and circulation, WorldShare Management Services have helped UA Library staff increase the efficiency and effectiveness of information services,” said Daniel Boivin, Executive Director, OCLC Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean. “Since implementation of the services, UA Library has experienced a dramatic increase in providing academic support to staff and student populations.”

WorldShare Management Services (WMS) were released for general availability in July 2011. Today, more than 100 libraries on three continents—Australia, Europe and North America—are already using the services and more than 90 more are in the implementation process.

With WorldShare Management Services, libraries are able to simplify their back-office operations, saving both time and resources. As a result, library staff can focus their attention on their mission-critical objectives, allowing them to do more of the work that is unique and valuable to their users.
