Hong Yao

Hong Yao is the Director of Technical Services of the Queens Public Library. She leads a team of over 150 staff to ensure that materials are properly selected, ordered, cataloged & prepared and delivered to all 65 locations to satisfy the demand of residents in Queens. Hong works closely with QL other departments as well as front line staff to ensure that materials budget, in excess of 6 million dollars to be spent out efficiently and effectively. As part of the management team of the library, Hong plans, executes and oversees projects that confer with the library’s long-term strategic plans & goals. Hong is skillful at communicating with people at different divisions of the organization and outside partners. She works closely with vendor to bring best possible value to the library. Hong is active in the library professional world. She speaks at ALA annual conferences, REFORMA regional meetings, and teaches a class, called Collection Development (LBSCI771) at Queens College Library School. Currently she is serving as CALA NE president and CALA National President-Elect 2020. Representing Queens Public Library and CALA, Hong attended Shanghai International Library Forum 2018 as a guest speaker.
