Hong Yao
Director, Technical Services, Queens Public Library
Hong Yao is the director of Technical Services of the Queens Public Library. She leads a team of over 150 staff to ensure that materials are properly selected, ordered, cataloged & prepared, and delivered to all 65 locations to satisfy the demand of residents in Queens. Hong works closely with QL and other departments, as well as front line staff to ensure that materials budget, in excess of 6 million dollars to be spent out efficiently and effectively. As part of the management team of the library, Hong plans, executes and oversees projects that confer with the library's long-term strategic plans and goals. Hong is skillful at communicating with people at different divisions of the organization and outside partners. She works closely with vendors to bring the best possible value to the library. Hong is active in the library professional world. She speaks at ALA annual conferences, REFORMA regional meetings, and teaches a class, called Collection Development (LBSCI771) at Queens College Library School. Currently, she is serving as CALA. Representing Queens Public Library and CALA, Hong attended Shanghai International Library Forum 2018 and 2020 as a guest speaker.
