Americas Regional Council
Library Director, Bibliothèque de Brossard, City of Brossard
Suzanne has been the Director of the Brossard Public Library since 2007. An innovator, her primary goal is to promote accessibility, and to offer pertinent and quality services. To that effect, she has increased opening hours, hired a team of librarians, developed services for Seniors and cultural communities, and created SODA, a space dedicated to Teens. In 1996, she was the first ever librarian in the City of L’Assomption. From that year to 2007, she hired the staff, developed all its services and collections, and actively participated in the construction of the community’s library.
She headed the Quebec Association of Public Libraries from 2004 to 2013. Her leadership was instrumental in the creation of a platform allowing the province’s public libraries access to digital material from Quebec publishers. She was a member of the organizing committee of the 2008 IFLA conference in Quebec City and presided a satellite program in Montreal entitled Navigating With Youth. From 2009 to 2013, she chaired the IFLA Public Library Standing Committee. In 2007 and 2008, she participated in the Advisory Committee of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for the Access to Learning Award. She is a member of the OCLC Global Council since July 2013.
Suzanne earned a Bachelor of Science (1981) and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Montreal (1996). In addition, she completed a post-graduate degree in public administration from l’ENAP in 2008. In 2009, she was honored with a prestigious prize in recognition of her contribution in the service of public libraries, the Prix reconnaissance, milieu des bibliothèques publiques, by the Corporation des bibliothécaires professionnelles du Québec, the professional order of Quebec librarians.
