Jenny McDonald

Jenny McDonald is a senior leader in the National Library of New Zealand with over 18 years’ experience in various leadership positions. The National Library has legislative responsibility for supporting the work of libraries in New Zealand. Jenny manages Te Puna Services which is one of the key services provided by the National Library which delivers on this outcome. Te Puna Services provides one place to search across all of New Zealand’s library holdings. Jenny has led the development of this national collaboration with New Zealand libraries to deliver search, cataloguing and resource sharing tools. Close links with Libraries Australia have led to the TransTasman interlibrary loan service. She has a particular interest and strength in stakeholder engagement, and is experienced in gathering stakeholder feedback and working towards a shared agenda.

In 2008 she was responsible for implementing a policy jointly brokered with New Zealand librarians to provide every New Zealand library with access to the OCLC metadata services, powered by WorldCat. Continuing with the strategy of supporting and seeking efficiencies for and with New Zealand libraries, her team implemented two software platform changes, one in 2013 (hosted Interlibrary loan services with OCLC) and in 2016 (Worldshare Metadata Services) which saw the national infrastructure move from a locally hosted to a managed service hosted in the cloud by OCLC. Jenny and her team worked with OCLC to migrate the New Zealand national Interlibrary Loan service to WorldShare ILL in December 2018.

Term end date: 30 June 2022
