Dr. Sasekea Harris is employed to The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona Campus, as Senior Librarian / Head of the Science & Engineering Branch Library and adjunct lecturer in the Department of Library & Information Studies (DLIS), where she lectures in metadata creation; and previously facilitated courses in library management. Dr. Harris holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Sheffield, UK; a Master of Library and Information Studies; and a Master of Science from the UWI. She also completed training in Transformational Leadership and Management at the Mona School of Business & Management. She has the distinction of being a Jay Jordan IFLA / OCLC Early Career Development Fellow; the 2016 and 2017 recipient of the Library & Information Association of Jamaica (LIAJA) award for research and publication; the 2016 UWI Mona Principal’s Award for Best Research Publication, and the 2018 UWI Mona Principal’s Award for Outstanding Researcher. Dr Harris has served in various capacities within LIAJA; of note is her contribution as chief editor for the two most recent volumes of LIAJA journal. She is also a reviewer for Caribbean Museums, and founder of The University of the West Indies Library & Information Student Society (UWI-LISS). Dr. Harris has a number of publications in Academic and STEM Librarianship and is a keen advocate for initiatives which seek to elevate the status of academic librarianship at the local and international levels.
